NDIYO: Say "YES" To Taking Your Practice Off The Ground
The first circus took the stage on April 4, 1768 in England. The spectators were amazed and awed by the performers’ daring acts and engaging characters. This show paved the way for aerial arts and the invention of aerial silks.
Andre Simard was a nationally ranked gymnast who joined Cirque du Soleil three years after they began. Simard wanted to create something new and exciting for the audience and that’s when the shimmering, flowing fabric was added to the show.
Today, we have an opportunity to feel a similar sense of freedom and ignite creativity from within. Instead of being suspended 30 feet in the air, though, we are at a safe 3 feet off of the ground, and can practice from the comfort of our own home without the popcorn and gasping crowds.
How can you begin to practice this yourself? Allow me to introduce myself and my new platform that I hope will inspire you!
Hi, I’m Nikki, your Aerial Yoga guide and the creator of NDIYO ~ an online Aerial Yoga & Aerial Fitness platform.
I have had the pleasure of teaching multiple movement modalities for the last 12 years across the country and overseas. I have studied under some of the brightest minds to include the 14th Dali Lama and Cirque du Soleil trainers, but nothing has compared to the joy and gratitude I have received from watching new aerial enthusiasts fall in love with the practice. And with that, NDIYO was born.
NDIYO means “YES” and we are excited to inspire you to say YES to new experiences and new possibilities both in and out of your hammock. NDIYO offers a wide variety of beginner to advanced classes taught by world-class instructors. We will guide you through class with easy-to-follow instructions to make sure you are safe and secure in your hammock.
Need a hammock? No problem. They cost between $100 - $150, are easy to install, and provide so much versatility to your yoga practice. If you would like some recommendations for where to purchase your hammock and how to rig it, please visit our EQUIPMENT page for some suggestions.
NDIYO makes it possible for aerial enthusiasts to continue with their aerial journey safely and for new members to step into the light and find a bit more happiness and creativity through movement.
Aerial arts is not something you pick up one day and master the next, and that is why it’s special. The fabric leaves room for constant improvement as well as support and guidance. It becomes an extension of yourself and your fluid movements. Just like anything else, your aerial practice is all about the journey and the beautiful lessons you will learn along the way from yourself and your guide.
