Choosing yoga leggings is more important than you might expect. Your choice of clothing plays an integral role in how comfortable you are when performing different yoga poses. The wrong leggings can be too restrictive, making it harder for you to stretch. Or, they can be too loose and baggy, getting in your way and causing a trip hazard.

So, how do you choose the perfect yoga leggings? You'll find loads of options out there, but it comes down to the following three factors:

Stretchiness

Firstly, you need leggings that are stretchy and flexible. As such, they let you stretch and move into loads of different poses. Think about all of the different yoga poses you'll be asked to do - look at the pigeon, for example! Can you imagine getting your body into that position without a pair of flexible/stretch leggings? It would be impossible, meaning you either fail to move into the stretch or rip your leggings. Ideally, you want leggings that respond to your body and stretch when necessary, then return to the normal shape.

Close fit

Next, you want to consider the fit of the leggings. Now, to say you want tight leggings would be a bit misleading. You want them to be a close fit, meaning they hug your legs, hips, and bum. Something like booty scrunch gym leggings are ideal as they match the contours of your body. The material is tight to your body without being too compressed around your waist. Essentially, it should almost feel like you're wearing a second skin! That sounds pretty gruesome, but it's the best way to describe how yoga leggings should fit. There shouldn't really be any space between your legs and the leggings. If there is, then the leggings are too baggy, and you'll find it uncomfortable trying to stretch and hold poses in them. The excellent news is stretchy leggings are usually the perfect fit as they're tight to your body but give the flexibility to avoid being uncomfortable.

See-through

Finally, your yoga leggings can't be see-through. This is the case for so many leggings on the market right now. They check the first two boxes, but the material is far too see-through. The worst leggings will be see-through when you're standing around doing nothing. However, it's common to find ones that look great but become see-through when you squat or stretch. This is the real test of quality in the leggings department. If you can find ones that avoid being see-through when you squat and perform crazy stretches, they will be perfect. It allows you to wear something that feels comfortable and doesn't leave you feeling self-conscious.

I won't recommend any brands as there are so many for you to look at online. All I will say is that you should keep these three points in mind when buying leggings. It also helps to buy a few different pairs and sizes to try on at home. Then, you can send back the ones that don't tick all three of these boxes.
