Gift-giving can be a love language for many people. You know when you open a gift, and you realize it’s a bag, a T-shirt, or a charity donation of something that you mentioned months ago, the feeling is almost irreplaceable. It wasn’t a hint when you pointed it out, and you weren’t even asking for it. The gift giver remembered and made sure you got it on your special day.
There is something it’s so delightful about giving and receiving gifts. Something that wasn’t last minute and isn’t a body spray set. The idea that somebody had considered you and what are you like can make you feel incredible.
You can’t put a price on great gift-giving. But you can get better at gift giving yourself.
Here are some ways that you can make gift-giving an art form and excel at it.
Use what you know
Your superpower when it comes to gift-giving is that you know that person very well. You know what they like, what they have been through that year, and what they dislike too. And the beauty of it is it doesn’t matter if it’s just because they really enjoyed two or three glasses of wine, and you want them to have the best glass.
Or perhaps you know that they have a lavender bath every second Friday; those are all the details that matter. It’s that you thought about what that person needs and what they want. Thinking about gift-giving should be on a slightly more profound level. Technically speaking, we can have body sprays all year long - the extra effort of a handmade one makes it special.
What makes gifts unique at Christmas is that they are wanted. Suppose you know that person has been through something incredibly challenging or that they have somebody in their family who is. It’s time to donate to that specific charity or get breast cancer awareness t shirts or books on how to support people through things.
Go personal.
Handmade
Let’s be honest; not everybody can make things. However, it isn’t hard to find somebody who can make what you’re thinking about. One of the sweetest gifts that people give and receive is something handmade. It could be that you spend time creating a gift with personalized photos of their children. Or perhaps you find pictures of their past their grandparents and turn that into a gift.
You can also hand make jewelry, soaps, memory books, monogramming, and even burning wood. Think about what that person likes and go with that. It might not be perfect, but it will be unique.
Growth
Almost everybody is on a journey of personal growth. Perhaps they want to sort a business, they want to start a business, manage their finances better, or even launch a blog. Think about the things in life that will bring them long-term happiness, perhaps in the future it will change their lives. If you’ve heard them say countless times that they want to start a business, then find them some guidance.
Look for books, courses, and even mobile phone apps. Add them all into a gift box, with a brand-new coffee cup with their business name on. Wish them well and enable them to grow forward.
Giving great gifts means that you take some time to think about the person.
