A yoga festival happening in Hunters Point on September 24th from 9-3pm.
NOW Hunters Point seeks to transform a former industrial landscape into a dynamic activity center that can be a place for environmental restoration and community renewal. In an attempt to capture what can be wanted and loved by the community, the NOW Hunters Point project team has embraced an interactive community engagement process as the catalyst for the design, programming, and future visioning of the site.
The process launched in early 2013 with a series of interviews with key stakeholders in the community. Those conversations helped frame the creation of the Early Intervention on the site, which was launched in late 2013. The Early Intervention, which consisted of a Listening Booth and general site improvements, was intended to provide a platform for a more tangible connection and dialogue with the community. Between the first on-site event, the National Day of Listening (November 2013), and most recent one, the End of Summer Movie Night (August 2015), the site and the surrounding neighborhood have been a staging ground for activities working to engage people in the conversation of what the site can become.
