Meditate On This Now: Aham Brahmasmni.

By Tatyanna Wright

Six weeks ago my husband Michael Raso was let go from his place of work. His job is in advertising, an Ad-industry executive at a global agency. He had just returned from spending five weeks in the UK pitching a potential huge piece of business when he was informed of his retrenchment. Now at home, and feeling the anxiety of Coronavirus coupled with his industry, like many companies, putting holds on new hires, his worry evolved into complete freaked out uncertainty. Understandably. During that first week, I watched him become more and more isolated. His usually positive nature shifted to doubt. I kept reminding him to mediate, use his practice.

We’ve both been practicing meditation and yoga for decades. Over the years my personal practice has evolved to include several different yogic and energetic healing modalities including Tantric and Shamanic applications. I reminded my husband that I could “do a healing on him”. During this healing session, which I call a ritual healing because I integrate aspects of my own Tantric and Shamanic practices into a persons’ experience. It’s during this healing that I am able to “tap into” your higher self to obtain feedback on what is best for you at that time.

For my husband, a powerful mantra came. It was Aham Brahmasmi. “Amazing” I thought, what a perfect mantra for him, for right now. Aham Brahmasmi is a powerful mantra that connects you to your higher self. No religious connotations, no woo woo. It’s a frequency that works by reminding us (through connecting to our higher selves) to stay open, stay grounded and whole. This intern has infinite positive effects like being able to sleep, not feeling as stressed in times of strife and being open to new possibilities/ideas because this mantra invites harmony with everything.

After a week of my husband practicing this mantra daily, he said “it came to me that I should share this with everyone right now. Everyone is going through this – Coronavirus – it’s really helped me calm down and stay positive and shift my mindset. I think we can all benefit”. Using his creative contacts in the ad-world, he reached out to his friend Joel Simon from JSM Music, the preeminent music production house in New York City to compose the music. Understanding how potent mantra can be, I said we need a mantra chanter, someone who has the transmission and understands its vibration so that everyone who listens receives its’ power.

I reached out to my friend Annemarie Brown, master meditation and mantra teacher at the Sattva Yoga Academy in Rishikesh, India. She recorded her voice at their Sattva Music studio and within two days we had the project ready to share. It has been live since March. The other important factor to this project was making it free. So there’s no email capture, no sign up. Just listen and absorb the healing properties of the mantra. You can do it walking around the block, listening before bed, when you wake, anytime of day.
