Bay Area Yoga Teacher Highlight: Faysal Abi.
Name: Faysal Abi
Practice with me at: One-on-one sessions and Public Classes at Peacebank Yoga Studio in Redwood City.
How long I’ve been practicing yoga: 17 years.
How long I’ve been teaching yoga: 5 years.
What kind of yoga I teach: It’s hard to limit the way I teach to a specific category. It’s a combination of Vinyasa, Power, and flexibility work. One-on-one sessions are highly personalized based on each client’s needs and may include strength training, flexibility work, and specific muscle activation to promote the desired goal.
My mantra these days: Do more with less effort.
An asana/meditation or kriya that has been resonating with me lately is: How will I be practicing Yoga when I’m 90 years old, and how can I apply those lessons from the future today?
How I like to practice yoga off the mat: Still working on my patience! Lord help me!
My favorite thing about summer: I love being outside and soaking in the sun, whether that’s on a hike with my dog, Zen, or appreciating the trees and birds in my own backyard. I’m really looking forward to hosting yoga teacher training later this summer.
My sign: Sagittarius.
The last book I read was: I’m loving everything by Anthony Williams (Medical Medium), right now.
Favorite local juice/tea spot: Coupa Cafe, Palo Alto.
Where I go for a nourishing meal: I love Dish Dash in Sunnyvale or Sushi at Jin Sho in Palo Alto. Also Pizza at Terun in Palo Alto, Yum!
A few of my favorite yoga teachers are: Jonathan Rickert, Annie Carpenter, and Dice Lida-Klein.
A ritual I love: Soaking in my hot tub before bed, meditating, Yoga, and reading, All the other rituals are secret.
What I am letting go of this year: My opinions.
What I am embracing this year: Ease and slowing things down. I feel we have normalized psychosis in Silicon Valley. We are not living the best version of our humanity; we can do better for ourselves, others, animals and the planet.
