Unicorns (And Deep House) Exist In Miami Too!

Unicorns (And Deep House) Exist In Miami Too!

By Autumn Feldmeier

When I left San Francisco for Miami, I feared I wouldn’t find the bohemian vibe I came to love so much in SF. In fact, I gave away most of my fun costumes, which consisted of pink wigs, faux fur coats and a fabulous band hat. I was convinced my dress up party days were over.

Then, I found my fellow unicorns! And I found them in unique, yet familiar setting. Nestled in the Oakland-like neighborhood of Little Haiti, surrounded by amazing street art, is the amazing Inhale Miami. The gorgeous murals on the exterior remind me of Oakland (as does the funky, diverse community around it). The studio is truly a gorgeous mix of yoga, art and a community space. In addition to yoga classes, Inhale Miami is an event space that hosts offerings like Ecstatic Dance, Blindfold Yoga, a Shakti Women’s Circle, Free Family Yoga, Chakra Activation and Shamanic Dance Fusion. And I love the owner Rikki Kamensky. She is an entrepreneur, yoga instructor, and a powerhouse.

Recently, I was even able to unpack my colorful bell bottoms and adorn myself in glow in the dark body paint for an event. And I am very much looking forward to the very first Deep House Yoga happening at Inhale Miami on June 6th with local DJ Ella Romand.

Another great find, DAYBREAKER Miami, I fell in love with DAYBREAKER when it began in San Francisco a few years ago. It is a mix of great music, amazing venues and unique performances. What I am beginning to see, is that so much of what I loved in San Francisco is mirrored here in Miami!

The first Miami DAYBREAKER I attended was at the majestic Faena Forum in Miami Beach where they did a White Party. As I danced, I literally found myself surrounded by unicorns of all shapes, ages and sizes and found a deep and inspiring message at the end.

The lesson learned… Unicorns exist everywhere! I thought this new place (Miami) wasn’t going to be as funky and fun as what I was used to… what I realized, is that I just needed to find other people on the path to dance and play with.
