Bay Area Yoga Teacher Highlight: Mira Valeria

Bay Area Yoga Teacher Highlight: Mira Valeria

Name: Mira Valeria

Practice with me at: Love Story Yoga & Yoga Tree Hayes.

How long I’ve been practicing yoga: 15 years.

How long I’ve been teaching yoga: 10 years.

What kind of yoga I teach: Alignment-based vinyasa.

My mantra these days: Do less. Slow down. Cultivate balance.

A posture that has been resonating with me lately is: Supported bridge pose (with a block). Also (always), handstand. :)

How I like to practice yoga off the mat: I sit to meditate every morning before I start my day. I also like to use other physical modalities as forms of focusing and quieting the mind. Lately, this looks a lot like running and lifting weights.

Favorite way to celebrate the winter: Building fires with piñon wood and eating copious amounts of green chile.

My sign: Scorpio.

The last book I read was: I'm currently reading Charlie Wilson's War and Du côté de chez Swann (Swann's Way).

Favorite local juice/tea spot: 90% of the time, you'll see me with Philz in hand. I'm an avid coffee drinker.

Where I go for a nourishing meal: There is nothing like a home-cooked meal. I love food and cook a lot (although not well); I am, however, blessed to have several talented chef friends.

What’s on your yoga playlist right now: Waiting (PAL Remix) by Alice Boman and Demain by Petit Biscuit.

A few of my favorite yoga teachers are: Jason Crandell (obviously), Desiree Rumbaugh and Richard Rosen.

A ritual I love: Giant breakfast followed by house cleaning on Sunday mornings.

What I am letting go of this year: The Hustle.

What I am embracing this year: Balance, variety and satya.

My website: miravaleria.com.

My instagram: @miravaleriayoga.
