SAND: The Science And Nonduality Conference Happening October 24 - 28, 2018.
What is SAND? SAND is people.
SAND - Science and Nonduality - is a community inspired by timeless wisdom, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience.
SAND is a playground where we come together in an openhearted exploration, to share insights, or simply experience what is emerging in the moment.
At SAND we see that every situation holds the key to knowing ourselves. Our pains, our joys, our desires - this is the medicine that we require to truly taste who we are. We celebrate our humanity.
All are welcome at SAND, reflecting the fact that there is no "thing" separate from anything else. Reality emerges moment to moment as an infinite, ever-present, interconnected whole - and we are not separate from it.
At SAND we gather to share the sensual longing to know the unknowable, to embody that which is beyond form, to experience the source in all the multitude of forms and perceptions, the infinite through the finite cycles.
SAND is an annual conference. We invite participants to listen to what science and the timeless wisdom traditions can tell us, to meet each other beyond all concepts in the celebration of what is - through dance, art, voice, movement -to enter every session and interaction with an open heart and mind, and surrender to the awewhich arises when the mind gives up - to the mystery we call life.
SAND18 US’s theme is The Mystery of Being Human. It is happening October 24th – October 28, 2018 at Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, CA.
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.” ~ Albert Einstein
Join Deepak Chopra, Mirabai Starr, Fritjof Capra, Paul Stamets, Jean Houston, Hameed Ali, Sally Kempton, Robert Thurman, Peter Levine, Jac O'Keefe, Rupert Spira, Charles Eisenstein, Donald Hoffman, C.C. White, Isa Gucciardi, Stephen LaBerge, Chuck Hillig, Michaela Boehm, Terry Patten, Michael Taft, and many more brilliant minds and spiritual teachers from various traditions to expand and deepen our understanding and experience of what it means to be human.
For most of human history we’ve been trying to comprehend who we are through the lens of spiritual traditions. Then the Age of Enlightenment ushered in science, giving us a powerful new way to look at ourselves. Now new disciplines such as cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, quantum physics and genetics are delivering fascinating findings, redefining our view of reality and human nature. At the same time there is a new conversation emerging in spirituality. We are challenging the traditional view of spirituality as esoteric, transcendent and removed from daily life.
Through these two lenses – of science and spirituality – we ask:
• What does it means to be fully human and fully alive?
• What can evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and psychology tell us about human behavior?
• What are emotions, and how does trauma lodge in our bodies?
• How does language shape the way we think and perceive reality?
• What can we learn from the new science of psychedelics?
• How are mathematics, physics and cosmology redefining reality?
Understanding our humanity, the very essence of who we are and how we live our lives, is one of the deepest mysteries and biggest challenges. As we move into this exploration, what emerges is a completely new relationship to our spiritual life and to our idea of what an integrated human being might look like. Embracing our humanness means including our limitations and shortcomings as well as our unlimited potential, our suffering as well as our wholeness. When our heart opens to all of it, the truth of who we are begins to shine. The spiritual search is over. There is no refuge but this moment. We become lovers of what is.
Join us for five days contemplating and celebrating our humanity - at the amazing annual gathering called SAND!
Love, The SAND Team.
