The Perfect Pairing: Yoga + Wine In April

The Perfect Pairing: Yoga + Wine In April

By Rachel Nichols

As the weather warms up, more wineries are planning a variety of events in hopes to entice new customers into the tasting room, and lately I’ve been seeing more wine and yoga events begin to pop up. I’ve heard of three wine + yoga events coming up this month in Sonoma County that are worth checking out.

Sunday, April 10, 11:00 a.m. (also April 17, 24 and every Sunday until further notice)
Where: Orpheus Wines (www.orpheuswines.com), 8910 Hwy 12, Kenwood, CA
What: Join Orpheus Wines on Sunday mornings for a special pairing to nourish your mind, body and palate. The class is a one-hour beginner/Level 1 yoga class in the main tasting room followed by a guided tasting of three current release wines. All classes are beginner-friendly with modifications offered to increase intensity or accommodate differing physical abilities. Please bring a mat and water if you can; we will also have extra mats for those who RSVP in advance.
Cost: $15 per person

After yoga: Check out Palooza, which is located right next door, for some gourmet pub grub with a great selection of wine and beer. After lunch, head down the road to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park (2605 Adobe Canyon Rd., Kenwood, CA) and take a gorgeous hike up Bald Mountain, and find sweeping views of Wine Country.

Sunday, April 10, 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Where: Comstock Wines (www.comstockwines.com), 1290 Dry Creek Road, Healdsburg, CA
What: Start the day right with a gentle and invigorating yoga practice al fresco in the Comstock Wines Estate Vineyards, with Mari and Chris Coppinger from 2up Yoga. After our hour-long class, you will enjoy a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc and continental breakfast on the patio. We welcome all levels of yoga practice. Treat yourself to this decadent experience which will leave you feeling rested, relaxed and rejuvenated.
Cost: $25 per person

After yoga: Head to Downtown Healdsburg for lunch and check out Bergamot Alley (bergamotalley.com), which specializes in gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, salads and other snacks--and great wine and beer offerings. After lunch, shop around the square and stop into the popular pie and ice cream bar, Noble Folk, for a sweet treat.

Saturday, April 23, 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Where: Matanzas Creek Winery (www.matanzascreek.com), 6097 Bennett Valley Road Santa Rosa, CA
What: Join us for a rejuvenating and relaxing Kripalu style yoga practice, followed by a sensory-focused blind tasting experience. This introspective style of yoga will facilitate a deep relaxation and opening of the senses, leading us into the "yoga of wine tasting." In conclusion, a gourmet box lunch will be accompanied by a glass of wine of the guest’s choice. The experience is open to 18 guests.
Cost: $75 per person
For more information: To book your appointment, please call 707-521-7016 or email info@matanzascreek.com.
After yoga: Head 15 minutes down the road and sit out on the patio at the new Bird & The Bottle restaurant (www.birdandthebottle.com) for a glass of County Line Rosé and a variety of delicious small, shared plates. Annadel State Park is also just down the road and is exploding with wildflowers this time of year.
